Daytona Beach, Florida is the site of the annual Biker’s Week, where motorcycle enthusiasts from around the globe decend for races, shows, events, parties, good times and bears up trees. Huh?
A 250 pound black bear wandered into downtown Daytona looking for a good time I guess, eventually finding its way up into a nearby tree on Main Street to get a better look at the bikes or bikinis, not sure which. Maybe it was looking for a Dunkin’ Donuts shop.
Wildlife officials have been tracking the bear for some time, and you can find more on this from this website, saying it used to hang out in the Ocala National Forest some miles away from Daytona. They’re not sure what attracted it to this area but it has been roaming the area between Flagler Beach and Daytona for some time.
Officials say they usually observe bears like this to make sure nothing happens to them or anyone else and eventually the bear moves on. In this case, they figured that being downtown with thousand of people milling about for the annual Bike Week, probably not a good place to be. So they sedated the bear and got it down out of the tree and took it for a ride – not on the back of a Harley!
