Michigan DNR Recovers Wolf Collar in River
March 10, 2006
A radio search plane used by officials of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, discovered a mortality signal coming from one of its radio collars that had been placed on a female wolf about three years ago. In an attempt to locate the remains of the animal, authorities discovered the collar was at the bottom of the Munuscong River, near M-129 bridge south of Pickford.
DNR personnel had to wait until dangerous ice conditions had waned before attempting to recover the collar. Once they could, they retrieved it and found that it had been cut. They are opening up an investigation and treating it as a crime.
A yet-to-be-determined cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of whoever is responsible.
