Elk Number Objectives in Wyoming to Remain the Same

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department announced that other than a few tweaks here and there, the elk management plan will remain basically unchanged, meaning elk herd number objectives will remain about the same.

Essentially this means that all factors considered, including habitat availability, population demographics and hunting harvests, the numbers decided on by Game and Fish officials can be supported and achieved.

There are 35 elk herd management units in Wyoming and an estimated population of 91,555 animals. That’s about 9,000 more than objectives. Adjustments will need to be made in an attempt to reduce those numbers in areas needed. All 35 units are reported to be at or above management population goals.
