The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission on Thursday approved a second mountain lion hunt but with a few changes this time around.
The season will run from November 1, 2006 through December 31, 2006. The quota on animals killed will be 25 cats or 8 females whichever comes first. Once either of those quotas is reached, the hunt will be called off.
A new rule instituted this year says that when a hunter spots two cats together, neither animal can be shot. This is an attempt to reduce killing nursing female cats.
