Gun Statistics to Ponder

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

My good friend Milt Inman, also chief photographer for U.S. Hunting Today, forwarded an email to me with some interesting figures on it. Before you read this, be forwarned that I have not verified the information but needless to say, I think you’ll get the idea!

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, there are 700,000 doctors in the United States.

Doctors cause 120,000 accidental deaths each year.

The rate of accidental deaths per physician is 0.171

According to the FBI, there are 80 million gun owners in the U.S.

The total number of accidental gun deaths per year is 1,500.

The rate of accidental guns deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.

If these statistics are accurate, doctors are 9,000 times more likely to accidentally kill someone than a gun owner. So, remember, guns don’t kill people, doctors do!

One would also want to bear in mind that not everyone has a gun but almost everyone sees a doctor.

To finish up the email, there was a bit of comedy that went along with it. It goes like this:

Out of concern for the public at large, we have withheld the statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

Have a good day!
