For the first time ever, bear hunters will have a chance to hunt bears in the Virginia portion of the Great Dismal Swamp. The North Carolina portion will remain closed.
Hunters can sign up for a lottery drawing of 100 permits. Each lucky winner will pay $50.00 for the permit. Harvest numbers will be closely monitored and when 20 bears have been killed, the two-day hunt will end.
The hunt will take place on December 1 and 2, 2006.
