According to a story this morning from outdoor writer C.C. McCotter, Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries along with other state agencies, raided two private hunting clubs, arrested the owners and shut the businesses down.
The state is saying both clubs were running hunting enclosure businesses which are illegal in Virginia. They also say the hogs penned at one site are diseased with rabies and brucellosis. How officials knew that prior to the raids is unclear at this time. The hogs are being destroyed or as a spokesperson for the Department of Agriculture and Consumers Services said, they are “depopulating the animals” – chuckle.
There seems to be a lot of gray area in making a determination that these two hunting clubs were being run as hunting enclosures. It will be interesting to see how the courts rule on this.
