The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is reminding hunters in the downeast region to make sure you know which Wildlife Management District you are hunting in especially if you have an Any-Deer Permit or moose permit for zones 26, 27 or 28. Those district’s boundaries were reconfigured this year.

MDIFW is also urging hunters to be aware that the thick hides of deer and moose prevent the animal from allowing body heat to escape. Because of this the internal temperature of the animals after they are killed will stay warm for a long time. This in turn can cause meat to spoil very quickly. They urge hunters to fill the body cavity of the animals with ice.
