Scientists have yet to come up with an explanation as to what killed about 2500 mallard ducks in waters around south central Idaho. Back in early December a hunter spotted the dead ducks on Land Creek Springs which is about 15 miles southeast of Burley, Idaho.
Official say they don’t think this is a case of bird flu but samples have been sent to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lab to be tested. They have also sent water samples and intestinal tract samples to two different locations to test for pesticides known to affect waterfowl.
Right now biologists suspect some kind of bacterial or fungal disease and do not believe it is viral in nature. Warning signs have been posted for hunters not to eat any ducks in this area.
Officials are cleaning up the dead ducks.
