“We Don’t Have a Strategy Yet”

This article first appeared in The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal online:

President Obama admitted at the White House on Thursday, “We don’t have a strategy yet”! Obama was referring to his absence of plans for neutralizing ISIL in Syria.

Last Thursday 21 August Obama’s Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and his Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Martin E. Dempsey stated that ISIS is the worst threat we have faced and we will need to attack vigorously, including in Syria. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stated he would cooperate, so we anticipated President Obama would be leading the World in a determined defeat of ISIS

It seemed clear that the Pentagon had a plan. We expect the Pentagon to have plans for every possible situation. We expect that our President and Commander in Chief will be able to quickly decide how to act in a given military situation.

Yesterday 28 August Obama admitted, “We don’t have a strategy yet”! Why would a military leader admit such a problem? Why would our President and Commander in Chief want to advise an enemy of our deficiencies?

President Barack Obama is working on strategies to fight Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, and to continue to dissuade Russia from military involvement in Ukraine, he said Thursday from the White House.

Obama said he has directed Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel to prepare a range of options to counter ISIL and has instructed Secretary of State John Kerry to travel to the region to build a coalition in opposition to the group. Though there have been reports suggesting that broader military action in the region is imminent, the president said he would take his time.

“I don’t want to put the cart before the horse. We don’t have a strategy yet,” Obama said from the White House press briefing room.

Obama has again decided it is best to dither. The White House and Pentagon struggled mightily last Monday to dial back the rhetoric and to justify Obama’s fear of engaging ISIS. Back in January Obama called ISIS the “JV” – the Junior Varsity. It turns out it is again Obama who is the lightweight in the conflict.

Obama’s answer yesterday was honest and embarrassing. Obama is off today for a day of fundraising. He spent the last three weeks vacationing and golfing, so it is little wonder Obama is not up to speed on our national security and the condition of the World.

When it came time to discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Obama said he is going to do nothing to help Ukraine, not even military rations and blankets. This is coming from our President who as a United States Senator encouraged Ukraine to disarm and assured them the United States had their back.

In fact it was Senator Barack Obama and Senator Dick Lugar who pushed to continue disarming Ukraine in 2005. Then and in 2009, Obama told Ukraine he had their back and would protect them against invasion from Russia.

As a U.S. senator, Barack Obama won $48 million in Federal funding to help Ukraine destroy thousands of tons of guns and ammunition – weapons that are now unavailable to the Ukrainian army as it faces down Russian President Vladimir Putin during his invasion of Eastern Ukraine.

In August 2005, just seven months after his swearing-in, Obama traveled to Donetsk in Eastern Ukraine with then-Indiana Republican Senator Dick Lugar, touring a conventional weapons site.

The two met in Kiev with President Victor Yushchenko, making the case that an existing Cooperative Threat Reduction Program covering the destruction of nuclear weapons should be expanded to include artillery, small arms, anti-aircraft weapons, and conventional ammunition of all kinds.

After a stopover in London, the senators returned to Washington and declared that the U.S. should devote funds to speed up the destruction of more than 400,000 small arms, 1,000 anti-aircraft missiles, and more than 15,000 tons of ammunition.

Obama does not have Ukraine’s back. Obama has said he will not commit U.S. military forces or arms to help Ukraine. It seems Obama is still in denial that Putin is acting as a normal Russian KGB leader would be expected to act. Obama just does not seem able to grasp reality.

Obama Delays Arms Sales to Israel While Arming Israel’s Enemies

Submitted by Donald R. May

President Obama continues his visible opposition to Israel and his support of Islamic countries that oppose Israel.

Our close military ally Israel has been purchasing ammunition, missiles, and other military supplies directly from the Pentagon. While Israel was confronting Hamas in the Gaza Strip last month, the Obama Administration discovered Israel’s working relationship with the Pentagon and has now slowed the supply process in an apparent effort to better control Israel. Jihad Watch reported,

Each transfer will no longer go directly through the Pentagon, but must now be approved by the State Department and the White House, giving Secretary Kerry and President Obama direct control on every transfer. The new procedure has had the affect of delaying the transfer of precision strike hellfire missiles to Israel in a time of war. The administration clearly intends to use such transfers as political leverage on Israel.

The Obama Administration has expedited highly sophisticated arms sales to Turkey. Turkish Weekly reported,

The United States has cleared a potential $320 million advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM) missiles sale to Turkey after the country demanded arms from its NATO ally amid increasing security risks in the region.

According to the announcement, the missiles will be used on the F-16 aircraft – and eventually F-35 aircraft – in the Turkish army’s inventory and will maintain the THK’s air-to-air capability to defend its extensive coastline and borders against future threats.

Turkey’s recently elected President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has increasingly opposed Israel, has a close relationship with Vladimir Putin, and is becoming increasingly hostile to Greece and Greek Cyprus, both of whom support Israel.

In addition, the Obama Administration just completed its largest arms sale of the year to Qatar. One recalls that the five most dangerous Islamic Terrorists housed at GITMO were recently released in Qatar. ISIS, Hamas, and the Muslim Brotherhood all receive major support from Qatar. Reuters reported the following,

The United States signed an agreement with Qatar on Monday to sell the Gulf Arab ally Apache attack helicopters and Patriot and Javelin air-defense systems valued at $11 billion.

“Today’s signing ceremony underscores the strong partnership between the United States and Qatar in the area of security and defense and will help improve our bilateral cooperation across a range of military operations,” Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said in a statement.

The agreement was signed at the Pentagon by U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Qatar’s defense minister, Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah.

It was the biggest U.S. arms sale so far this year, according to media reports.

It is very disturbing that the Obama Administration continues to put pressure on Israel to not defend itself against Islamic Terrorists while seeming to actually support the Terrorist enemies of Israel. Arming Qatar and Turkey preferential to Israel, and giving Iran time and money to continue its nuclear weapons development program are not comforting for the security of Israel or the United States.

Obama Briefly Interrupts Golf Game

This article first appeared Lubbock Avalanche-Journal at Lubbockonline.com

President Obama very briefly interrupted his golf game on Thursday to announce that all is well in Iraq and that he will keep racial tensions stirred up in Ferguson, Missouri. It is reported that after his 9-minute speech, Obama quickly resumed his golf game.

Obama announced that the United States military had provided food and water to the Yezidi on Mount Sinjar in conjunction with limited military air strikes against the ISIL. However, Obama stressed he will limit any military action against ISIL and will not commit ground forces to the effort.

Obama will supply food, water, and other humanitarian aid to the Kurdish forces, similar to what he supplied to the Ukrainian military. However, it seems Obama will supply some military supplies to the Kurds. It appears Obama remains overly stingy with military aid to our allies.

“Now, the situation remains dire for Iraqis subjected to ISIL’s terror throughout the country, and this includes minorities like Yezidis and Iraqi Christians; it also includes Sunnis, Shia and Kurds. We’re going to be working with our international partners to provide humanitarian assistance to those who are suffering in northern Iraq wherever we have capabilities and we can carry out effective missions like the one we carried out on Mount Sinjar without committing combat troops on the ground.

We obviously feel a great urge to provide some humanitarian relief to the situation and I’ve been very encouraged by the interest of our international partners in helping on these kinds of efforts as well. We will continue air strikes to protect our people and facilities in Iraq. We have increased the delivery of military assistance to Iraqi and Kurdish forces fighting ISIL on the front lines.

And, perhaps most importantly, we are urging Iraqis to come together to turn the tide against ISIL –- above all, by seizing the enormous opportunity of forming a new, inclusive government under the leadership of Prime Minister-designate Abadi. I had a chance to speak to Prime Minister-designate Abadi a few days ago, and he spoke about the need for the kind of inclusive government — a government that speaks to all the people of Iraq — that is needed right now. He still has a challenging task in putting a government together, but we are modestly hopeful that the Iraqi government situation is moving in the right direction.”

The problem is that Iraq is no more capable of holding back ISIL on its own than Germany was of holding back the Soviet Union on its own in 1951. A United States military presence is needed. In the case of ISIL and Iraq, at least heavy airpower coverage is needed because Iraq has no capable air power. ISIL should continue to be very pleased with Obama’s military plans for Iraq.

President Obama announced that the full force of Federal police power is being directed at the ongoing investigation in Ferguson, Missouri.

“This morning, I received a thorough update on the situation from Attorney General Eric Holder, who has been following it and been in communication with his team. I’ve already tasked the Department of Justice and the FBI to independently investigate the death of Michael Brown, along with local officials on the ground.

The Department of Justice is also consulting with local authorities about ways that they can maintain public safety without restricting the right of peaceful protest and while avoiding unnecessary escalation. I made clear to the Attorney General that we should do what is necessary to help determine exactly what happened, and to see that justice is done.”

Without apparently clearly knowing what happened that led to the death of the young man, Obama criticized the Ferguson police force. Obama has done this before, and Obama’s intervention has not been helpful.

“Of course, it’s important to remember how this started. We lost a young man, Michael Brown, in heartbreaking and tragic circumstances. He was 18 years old. His family will never hold Michael in their arms again. And when something like this happens, the local authorities –- including the police -– have a responsibility to be open and transparent about how they are investigating that death, and how they are protecting the people in their communities.”

Hundreds of young men are shot and murdered each year in Chicago. Over the Fourth of July weekend, 82 people were shot and 16 died. The Los Angeles Times reported,

The death toll from Chicago’s bloody holiday rose on Tuesday to 16 after two men who had been shot over the Fourth of July weekend died from their wounds.

Over the course of 84 hours during the Independence Day holiday in Chicago, 82 people were shot, prompting calls from Mayor Rahm Emanuel to put a stop to gun violence in the city.

Many of the shootings, which began about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, took place in some of the most violent South Side neighborhoods. Five people were reportedly shot by Chicago police, including two who died. The higher death toll was reported Tuesday by the Chicago Tribune.

President Obama has made little mention in the past of this immense Chicago tragedy and ongoing murder of innocents in Chicago. To my knowledge, Obama has sent no Federal authorities to Chicago to investigate. What is the difference between Fergusson(sic) and Chicago?
