When the People Fear Their Government, There is Tyranny. When the Government Fears the People, There is Liberty…

Lunny documented how the NPS repeatedly misrepresented the scientific record to depict the farm as environmentally harmful.  These concerns were later vindicated by the Department of the Interior Inspector General, which found the NPS “misrepresented research.”  Further, a review of the NPS’s activities by theNational Academy of Sciences found that one report “gave an interpretation of the science that exaggerated the negative and overlooked the beneficial effects of the oyster culture operation,” adding that the Service’s conduct “cast doubt on the agency’s credibility and motivation.”

Despite these developments, on December 31, 2014, the National Park Service forced the iconic eighty-year-old oyster farm to shut down.

“Let me be clear, we did not fail as a business. This was not bad luck. Rather, the Park Service engaged in a taxpayer-funded enterprise of corruption to run our small business out of Point Reyes. Our family experienced the worst of what a motivated federal agency can do to a small business,” Lunny testified. “From the beginning of our stewardship of the farm, false science has been used as the primary tool to divide our community, intimidate government officials, and ostracize our family. Our family run oyster farm became ground zero for scientific misconduct in the United States.”

Buffalo as Metaphors

By James Beers

(METAPHOR, n. a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable, in order to suggest a resemblance, as “A mighty fortress is our God”.)

I have just finished reading the latest federal EIS/Plan/Federal Register Notice/Request for Comments written by the US National Park Service (or is it the US Fish and Wildlife Service, or the US Forest Service, or some other federal bureaucracy – I forget) about FREE ROAMING BUFFALO IN THE YELLOWSTONE ECOSYSTEM (my underline).

Think about that for a moment – A Federal Plan for a common critter throughout AN ECOSYSTEM! Translation; since “Ecosystem” can be whatever you choose it to be, this federal plan composed by federal (i.e. unaccountable) bureaucrats, and buffalo being the critters they are, these central government “planners” are outlining what they will do – 1) in Yellowstone Park, 2) on the federal lands beyond Yellowstone Park boundaries, 3) on private property surrounding Yellowstone Park, and 4) on all the public and private property surrounding all the public and private property that surrounds Yellowstone National Park. Shades of Soviet Central Planners creating Stalin’s “Plan” to starve millions of Ukrainians to kill all the farmers that thought they still owned their land and replace them with the Soviet Collective Farms that, like this buffalo lunacy, will be a harmful and dismal failure, except in the halls of government where bureaucrats will slap each other on the back like the Soviets did for 60 years while giving each other bonuses as people, families and their communities disappeared.

There is NO authority or jurisdiction for federal bureaucrats to consider, much less delineate, where buffalo will occur or under what conditions they will be tolerated and who will pay for it OUTSIDE THE EXCLUSIVE JURISDICTION of Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park is unique in this character that it shares with only the District of Columbia. State governments have jurisdiction under the Constitution over the plants and animals in or about to be in their state regardless of who (federal, non-profit, private, etc.) owns it.

Consider:

– Buffalo are not “endangered”.

– Buffalo are among the most dangerous animals encountered by visitors to the various U.S. and Canadian National Parks and will attack humans if provoked. They appear slow because of their lethargic movements but can easily outrun humans—bison have been observed running as fast as 40 miles per hour (64 km/h). This fact is studiously either avoided or downplayed in the federal “plans”.

– Between 1980 and 1999, more than three times as many people in Yellowstone National Park were injured by buffalo than by bears. During this period, buffalo charged and injured 79 people, with injuries ranging from goring puncture wounds and broken bones to bruises and abrasions. Bears injured 24 people during the same time frame. Three people died from the injuries inflicted—one person by buffalo in 1983, and two people by bears in 1984 and 1986.

– Romance Biology accounts of the “massacre” of buffalo by “hunters” in the 1800’s never mention how towns, roads, farms and ranches could have ever been established, much less co-existed, with free-roaming buffalo.

– Romance biology accounts of the disappearance of buffalo also mention frequently that “livestock diseases decimated buffalo”; federal planners today downplay and ignore the threat that free-roaming buffalo would present to livestock such as brucellosis, hoof-and-mouth, BSE (Mad Cow) and Anthrax.

– Buffalo are cantankerous; a point I thought about as I hunted pheasants in Montana prairie hill country slated for a free-roaming buffalo referendum that was soundly rejected soon after my visit. (There was a BIG sign by the church entrance on Sunday morning that read, “NO BUFFALO IN MALTA!”) Imagine some guys on foot with shotguns behind dogs coming on a band of buffalo that get irritated by the dog’s, miles from anything but grass, pheasants and sharptails. Where do the dogs go? Why to YOU. Who storms after the dogs? Why the buffalo. What do you do? Why you either die or suffer injuries that YOU will be blamed for causing by some sort of regulatory violation based on some Romance Biology Professor’s nostrum paid for by government.

– Imagine living where buffalo knock down fences (commonly); where buffalo wander through crops and destroy them routinely; where buffalo (they are dark and heavy like moose) standing in country roads are struck by vehicles causing death, injuries, and property destruction to local men, women and kids; and where buffalo attacks on livestock are common.

But I digress: in what way you may ask are buffalo, metaphors? Let me count the ways.

Buffalo and their enablers are like:

Federal Wolf Planners that bear no responsibility for the lies and mayhem they create for their own benefit and the continued reelection and sponsorship of their political patrons.

State Wolf Planners that do federal bidding and spend scarce hunting and fishing revenue money on federal schemes designed to ultimately destroy hunting and fishing.

State Bureaucrats that express only contempt and disdain for residents of their state and Local governments in their State that object to wolves, grizzlies and protected mountain lions in their communities.

Wolves that spread disease, kill domestic animals like dogs and livestock, kill or compete with more desirable (to sportsmen and local communities) game animals, and present clear and present dangers to humans forced to coexist with them.

Wolf Enablers in that they (their majority) live elsewhere; do not raise livestock; do not hunt, fish or trap; and do not rely for effective local government representation on County governments and their revenue streams.

Grizzly Bear Advocates that spread and protect these very dangerous and very destructive animals based on lies and denials of deaths, destruction and injuries. Grizzly bears, like wolves, no more belong in the settled landscapes of the Lower 48 States than elephants, tigers or Nile Crocodiles belong here in this day and age.

Anti-Hunting/Animal Rights Radicals that promise to compensate losses from these animals but never do: that deny the truths right before their eyes with widespread propaganda in enthusiastic newspapers, TV, and school classrooms; and all the while forcing (through lawsuits) state fish and wildlife agencies to drain their funds for wildlife management on these programs to destroy hunting and rural American life.

Environmentalists and their hidden agendas to vacate rural America by a combination of government land purchase; federally-financed and coordinated surrogate purchases of key easements and land options; closure of roads; closure of public lands to management, use, grazing, logging, hunting by contrived claims of “importance”, Wilderness, Roadless, Sanctuaries and other bureaucratic creations; and the elimination of Local governments while simultaneously co-opting state bureaucracies.

Central Government and World Government Activists that envision a world THEY RULE where there are no such things as Constitutional guarantees, Congressional oversight, Judicial Review, private property, or the opportunity for local communities to live in peace and prosperity, free from outside influences that only take from them for the benefit of others.

Progressive (choose your own term here) Activists that believe that ANYTHING you can generate a majority, or influential, or rich, segment of the population to support should be imposed by any means on the minority or less powerful NO MATTER THEIR OBJECTIONS.

HHHMMMM, roll all the above together, put all their little hidden agendas and activities in one pot, and what do you have? Whatever you want to call IT; IT is a metaphor all its own. IT is like:

– Islamist “Planners” outlining and incrementally forcing their worldview on the rest of the world, NO MATTER WHAT THEY THINK regardless of civilized standards of behavior or any moral considerations.

– Soviet “Planners” taking advantage of every incremental opportunity to expand the Soviet Empire by whatever means from lies and invasion to forcible occupation. Never forget that the “Soviet” or “Russian” nuclear plant at Chernobyl was in Ukraine, surrounded by Ukrainians and not in Russia.

– Mao’s “Planners” destroying the cities and intelligentsia inside China while gobbling up Tibet and the South China Sea’s resources outside China.

– Nazi “Planners” lying about their plans for outside Germany until resistance was impossible and then swiftly invading and establishing concentration camps and slave labor with the intent of killing “sub-humans”, enslaving “inferior races”, and restoring a Romance History Fairyland populated by “Pre-Roman” plants and animals, “super-men” and the estates of Nazi overlords.

– Margaret Sanger Population Control “Planners” justifying the mass murder of millions of fellow human beings by abortion and the sterilization of others by government mandates (China) with government funding based on racist beliefs and disregard for the intrinsic value of each human life.

– Same-Sex Activists that appeal for “equal treatment” and then proceed to destroy the legal concept of marriage and parenthood and then destroy businesses, individuals and now churches and Chaplains that object to what they represent.

– Gun Control Advocates that get politicians to do anything, no matter its Constitutionality, to ban ammunition, restrict “only certain” guns, negotiate and secretly write UN agreements to subvert the 2nd Amendment, and smuggle guns to Mexican killers as justification to restrict guns in the US; while protesting how they “hunt” and “don’t want to restrict all guns” and how they “respect” the 2nd Amendment.

– Current American Society with its government secrecy; erosion of checks and balances; vilification of police; flag bans on campuses; government sex and race preferences; loss of local government; debilitating debt; and growing disparate justice standards based on wealth, government standing, and the political party of the judge’s appointing sponsor.

In the study of Logic you quickly encounter the Syllogism. A syllogism is a verifiable argument wherein two verifiable (i.e. true) premises explain, or lead to, a verifiable conclusion. For instance:

Premise #1-

Buffalo are a current tool of a coalition of extremist agendas that aim to destroy American Constitutional governance.

Premise #2-

Current American Society’s Constitutional governance is eroding at an accelerating rate.

CONCLUSION-

Buffalo are contributing to the erosion of Constitutional governance in America Society.

Come to think of it; buffalo are far more than just a metaphor for our times. They are but one of the destructive forces we face and must overcome.

If I Owned the Woods

Suppose I bought all the woods and hills around a thriving valley where farms and ranches abounded and town families prospered from a mix of agricultural support and several small industrial businesses. Suppose further that all the former owners from whom I had bought the land had been considered part of the greater valley community for generations.

What if I:
– Went to court and closed every road through my property that I could?

– Vegetated every closed road so that travel through my property by anyone from hunters to firefighters was impossible?

– Eliminated all grazing and timber cutting on my property?

– Closed my property to hunting, fishing, and trapping and any access?

– Refused to clean up downed timber after a big storm?

– Refused to spray insect-infested trees, or to remove dead ones?

– Brought cougars, wolves, and grizzly bears onto my property and released them?

– Refused to accept any responsibility for human injuries or dead animals resulting from MY predators?

– Made firefighting access and water availability to fight fires that started on my property unavailable UNLESS the valley residents bought ME airplanes and hired many new employees to work FOR ME when they weren’t fighting MY FIRES that could spread to the valley?

– Went to court and obtained a judgment that because I was not commercial and was considered a charitable, scientific entity that Local and State governments not only could not tell me what to do on my property, they and my neighbors would have to accept any impacts my land use practices imposed on them?

Well, of course:
– Sawmills would close because timber harvests that had gone on for generations ceased.

– Sawyers, like ranch-hands, would become unemployed as timber cutting and grazing acreages disappeared.

– Ranches would steadily dwindle in herd size and then in numbers as forage availability dwindled.

– Farms would dwindle as part-time work in the valley and in The Woods disappeared.

– Businesses would dwindle and disappear as transportation into and out of the valley was constricted.

– Real estate values would plummet as farm land became unprofitable and town homes lacked for buyers since there was no work available and predator problems even in town became endemic. Insurance rates skyrocketed since predator damage was the sole responsibility of the unfortunate citizens damaged in any way.

– Hunting, fishing and trapping disappeared. Businesses for guiding, housing and feeding such folks also dried up as access disappeared and predators both reduced game and posed deadly threats to visitors, children, and others considering outdoor activities.

– Local government and State government revenue of all sorts fell precipitously while demands for government “help” skyrocketed. My land went untaxed since it was “devoted to a higher ideal”, businesses closed up, agriculture dwindled, families moved away or went on welfare, and vacant and “foreclosed” home sites proliferated.

As all this went on, I became more powerful. I bought up parcels all over the valley. While I closed them to any use by local people, I bought, or rented at a discount, properties that would further close roads and pinch off increasingly isolated private property of former ranchers and farmers and long-time residents of the valley. Local government did only what I ALLOWED and I stacked the State Legislature with the best politicians that MY MONEY COULD BUY!

QUESTION: Who am I?
No, I am not Henry Potter. You remember him don’t you? Lionel Barrymore played him in “It’s a Wonderful Life”. He was the evil old cuss that made everyone poor and created that gloomy town where James Stewart (George Bailey) contemplated suicide until the angel showed him how important he (and really EACH OF US is) was to his community.

No, I am not some media mogul or Hollywood gazillionaire buying up rural land and then imposing urban standards and fantasies or rural communities.

I AM UNCLE SAM!

I am the US Forest Service. I am the National Park Service. I am the Bureau of Land Management. I am the US Fish & Wildlife Service. I control over 40% of the United States.

I am steadily eliminating all sustainable uses and management of RENEWABLE natural resources on MY LAND. I am eliminating roads and access on MY LAND. I am ignoring enormous fire-fuel accumulations resulting from Wilderness, Parks, storm damage, Roadless Areas, insect damage. I am closing access and roads everywhere to impede firefighting and public access. I am demanding that already-impoverished taxpayers give me more firefighters and expensive equipment to appear to be fighting fires of increasing magnitude and frequency. I accept NO RESPONSIBILITY (exactly as I have established the legal precedence for damage from the wolves and grizzly bears THAT I INTRODUCED AND SPREAD) for fire damage to residences, towns, and businesses resulting from fires STARTED AS A RESULT OF MY ACTIONS AND INACTIONS ON MY PROPERTY! I have spent over 40 years establishing legal precedents that say State and Local governments cannot tell me what to do or not do on MY PROPERTY. I have financially and professionally seduced State bureaucrats and State politicians to become my secret mistresses for whatever I want to do. I put millions of rural employees and thousands of rural businesses out of work and then vow to “reduce unemployment” and “support small businesses”. I pay no taxes and renege on promises to “replace lost taxes and share revenue with State and Local government”. I breed and release wolves on MY PROPERTY to infest State and private “neighbors” and do likewise with even more deadly and destructive grizzly bears and, like Henry Potter, despise and ridicule the ignorant bumpkins he evicts into the snow.

Uncle Sam has exceeded the slumlord Henry Potter in arrogance and evil. I suggest that when they make the movie one day, they consider cutting and pasting Spencer Tracy from the movie “Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde”. The 4 federal agencies cited above go about like Dr. Jekyl daily making scientific pronouncements and seeming good; while in truth killing and spreading evil nightly before reassuming the sweet appearance of a do-gooder.

Why Rural Americans in Wolf Country Believe Lois Lerner will be the Next IRS Commissioner

Guest post by James Beers:

This is being written as the notorious Lois Lerner of IRS infamy waits somewhere in retirement watching what information about her vile political activities is dripping out and wondering about what the chances are that her mysteriously lost government e-mails for a period of several years (while she denied tax-exempt eligibility to political opponents of the Obama Administration) will ever be recovered.

This Congressional Investigation into political-targeting of opponents of the President by the IRS has gone on for more than a year. Several months ago, Miss Lerner became a target of the investigation at which time she proclaimed her innocence and promptly pleaded her 5th Amendment right to not be “compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself”, or in this case herself. She immediately retired and clammed up like an oyster in a bucket. Her behavior is being mimicked by the current IRS Commissioner as he testifies daily in one of two modes. He is either giving evasive and disrespectful answers to Congressman with a smirk of contempt on his face, or he basks in adulation from Members of the President’s Party who treat him like a king who has been unjustifiably dragged before dogs.

While it is great theatre, as was Watergate, this week has been particularly illuminating about this IRS SCANDAL:

1. The President who initially feigned outrage (“if true”) about the scandal and later said there was not a “smidgeon” of corruption in the IRS; doubled down today as he toured Minnesota eateries and told an enthralled crowd of Minnesota fans that it (the Lerner/IRS contretemps) was just a “political scandal.”

2. An errant Lois Lerner e-mail came to light that shows her trying to initiate an unjustified IRS Audit of US Senator Grassley, a Republican known for his enthusiastic oversight of the IRS and Miss Lerner in recent years.

3. The IRS Commissioner has been lying to Congress for over a month about what e-mails would be provided while knowing that thousands were “lost”.

4. Miss Lerner’s and six of her known confederate’s (some of whom frequently visited the White House on undisclosed business) government e-mails were “lost” a week and a half after Congress first inquired about obtaining them over months ago. The explanation was that their computers “crashed” and hard drives were erased and recycled as the servers also mysteriously and simultaneously expired.

5. While computer experts laughed at the possibility of such a loss of information under these circumstances, word leaked out that IRS (that spent about $2B annually on information management) actually had employed as a contractor for many years a famous computer firm to (like those companies that back-up home computers like mine) keep a record of all computer information in case the computer or computers “crash”.

6. Shortly thereafter, word leaked out that while this firm had actually advertised that they backed up the IRS (wow!) computers for an extended period, they had been FIRED by the IRS in the midst of the initial discovery of lost e-mails, mysteriously expiring servers, and a total disappearance of all the information requested by Congress in the period before and right after the last election!

The Chutzpah (a Yiddish word for audacity, as in the boy that murdered his mother and father and threw himself on the mercy of the court as an orphan) in what has gone on this week is beyond the belief of any law-abiding American, but I digress. What caught this old bureaucrat’s eye however was the total cover-up including the FIRING without explanation of the very firm whose job it was to keep all such records on file under all circumstances.

Informed Rural Americans suffering with forcibly-imposed and protected GI (Government-Imposed) Wolves will recognize this scandal scenario immediately as being the model revealed 15 years ago about a scandal by similar political operatives in the US Fish and Wildlife Service that was eventually covered up and subsequently skyrocketed the two political operative’s careers to dizzying heights today.

The USFWS SCANDAL:

1. A 1999 Audit Report by the General Accounting Office to the US House of Representatives’ Natural Resources Committee revealed the following:

A.) In 1992 after the election of President Clinton and the election of the first Republican-controlled US House of Representatives in 40 years, USFWS hurriedly requested funding from Congress to introduce wolves (an extremely unpopular and controversial matter) and was denied.

B.) Within two months of taking office, the new House Leadership eliminated a superfluous hotbed of environmental activism and over-reach Committee, The Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee. The partisan staff Director of that Committee was immediately hired by USFWS and placed in charge of the hunting and fishing Excise Taxes that annually generated ½ to ¾ of a Billion dollars annually for exclusive distribution to state fish and wildlife agencies and their programs that generated these taxes.

C.) Two years after (B), $45 to $60 Million of Excise Tax dollars were secretly “stolen”, “diverted”, “appropriated” (choose whatever word you are comfortable with) by USFWS and used primarily to trap, import, and quickly release wolves in Yellowstone National Park; open a new USFWS office in California (also denied funding by Congress) for coordinating with radical groups; and pay bonuses (shades of the VA/IRS/et al Scandals) to USFWS managers. It is highly illegal to: 1. Take those funds or to use them for federal purposes; 2. Fund federal programs with any funds after Congress has denied such funding; and 3. To award them to any federal employees not directly involved in the LAWFUL administration of the Excise Taxes.

2. The lady Director that oversaw USFWS in those days appointed the radical Defenders of Wildlife (a private, Non-Government Lobby Group) to administer Federal “compensation” for any rare or unexpected damage to livestock but not dogs or other domestic animals. (This was merely a ploy to delay complaints until wolf numbers and distributions were too great to control.) Reports of damage mostly were “undetermined” or blamed on dogs or “unknown” which meant no compensation or record of the horrendous damage wrought by wolves.

3. The political fallout was hot at first and then buried as the Presidential (Bush/Gore) election approached and Democrats demurred and Republicans ran from confrontations like “Gingrich’s” Government closure and partisanship after Clinton’s embarrassments with an intern in the oval office (another “political” scandal like the VA/IRS/et al of today.)

4. Most surprising (to me) was the way the State Fish and Wildlife Directors never complained OR EVEN ASKED THAT CONGRESS REPLACE THE STOLEN FUNDS! NOR DID ALL THOSE “UNLIMTEDS”, “FOREVERS”, “ASSOCIATIONS”, “FOUNDATIONS”, OR “OUTDOOR STORES” DEMAND REPLACEMENT OF THE STOLEN MILLIONS! Thus did the hunters, fishermen and trappers of the US go about their daily lives as (at least) $45 to $60 Million dollars of the Taxes they instituted and paid were not only stolen from them and their prized programs: those taxes and the wolves they generated are being used as I write this to eliminate hunting, fishing, trapping, grazing, and public land management and use.

That GI Wolves now occur in 14 western states where they have caused great rural harm, economic losses, controversy, and are advancing radical causes like eliminating hunting and trapping, animal control, grazing, and further public land closures and restrictions is a matter of record. One needs look no further than the Rally Being Held in Yellowstone National Park and Hosted by the US National Park Service this weekend as I am writing this. I quote:

“Event organizers for Speak for Wolves: Yellowstone 2014 have developed the following five keys to reforming wildlife management in America:

* Ban trapping/snaring on all federal public lands.
* End grazing on all federal public lands.
* Abolish the predator-control department of the USDA Wildlife Services.
* Reform how state fish and game agencies operate.
* Introduce legislation to protect all predators, including wolves, from sport hunting, trapping, and snaring.”

This event is hosted by the USNPS, the sister (USNPS and USFWS are under the same Assistant Secretary of the Interior) agency of USFWS. Here is the government sponsoring radical political changes and like IRS, only for those favored by the President. Would the NRA be so “hosted” or “sponsored” or “endorsed” by USNPS? Consider that the NRA represents and protects a clear Constitutional guarantee and these usurpers represent taking more and more rights and cultural traditions from fellow citizens they despise by growing federal power and using tax dollars to accomplish it!

When the GAO Audit Report became public, a little-mentioned aspect was the fact that the USFWS had been required for 70 years to AUDIT EACH STATE AGENCIES FISH AND WILDLIFE PROGRAM USE OF THE EXCISE TAXES, EVERY FIVE YEARS! This had not been done for nearly two decades much to the delight of State Directors and federal managers that were using the funds for audits for other things surreptitiously. So practically overnight, USFWS hired a respected Defense Auditor to begin auditing State Fish and Wildlife Agencies on a Five Year Cycle.

Now State Fish and Wildlife Agencies, like USFWS, are exceedingly complex entities to audit. Funds can only be used for this and not for that. Are mollusks fish and eligible? Is stocking permitted? Is animal control, “operations” or something else? Historically, experienced (with fish and wildlife operations) accountants and a biologist with government experience and budgeting backgrounds were necessary for any reliable audit. Even when audited routinely, state directors and state political hacks (just like the Lois Lerners and Commissioner Kostinens of today) use whatever funds or powers they can for their own political and personal ends. Some examples of No-Noes:

– One state bought vehicles with F&W funds and then put them in the state car pool for use by all state employees.

– Another state transferred wildlife-purchased lands to build a state prison.

– Another state made a right-of-way across a wildlife-purchased area to allow for a hugely profitable land development and the Governor went on to become President.

– One state bought huge woodlands and then sold the timber and put the funds in the state’s general funds.

You don’t have to be an auditor to suspect that after almost two decades of no audits the magnitude of such “discrepancies” might be, well, “unexpectedly high” and high they were. In the first two years of the renewed audits, as the auditors began understanding the intricacies of earmarked funds and fish and wildlife operations they were, to no one’s surprise, somewhat behind in their schedule. Interestingly, their preliminary findings were tightly guarded and State Directors were howling behind the scenes like Banshees on a dark Irish night. So the USFWS Director FIRED the auditors for being behind schedule and hired the Interior Department Inspector General (a retired Secret Service guy with a largely retired Secret Service staff WHO’S JOB WAS OVERSIGHT OF THE VERY USFWS THAT HAD JUST HIRED HIM TO WORK FOR THEM! You might remember him as the fellow in the US House of Representatives’ ”Peanut Gallery” during President Obama’s State of the Union address as the President’s choice to oversee the President’s “Stimulus Funding.”

So the rumored “discrepancies” in state fish and wildlife operations (millions in the first few states audited) were somehow “explained” or found to be “in error” and the State Directors, all those hunter/fishermen organizations, the big “outdoor stores and federal bureaucrats still continue graze on the buffets and breakfasts at the big meetings as they all sip chardonnay and discuss job transfers, retirement employment and political connections.

Oh, and the Director and “Administrator” of those Excise Taxes that made all this possible? The lady Director spent a high-paid stint in The National Wildlife Federation as she waited for the 3-year ban on working for some group you materially benefitted while in government employment to expire after she resigned when Gore lost the election. Today she is the “President” or “Director” or “Grand-Pooh-Bah” of her favored Defenders of Wildlife and will probably attend the Rally in Yellowstone today. The “Administrator” was given a high-paying non-job in USFWS Headquarters as a “Science Advisor” under President Bush. The Bush folks gave him a nice office where he sat like a Manchurian Candidate until the next Democrat President (and they say that there is no difference between “RINOS” and “Democrats”.) This sort of thing goes on throughout government but my experience was that Republicans were far more reluctant to clean house than Democrats that seldom exhibited such scruples. Today the “Administrator” is DIRECTOR of USFWS!

So if you are still wondering about the connection between Lois Lerner and the lady Director of USFWS and her Excise Tax “Administrator” it is this: in any public scandal just FIRE any Auditor or Computer Back-Up firm that might reveal any further embarrassments. No one really cares. Just like the Presidential politics overcame the USFWS scandal and revealed the perfidy of state wildlife program advocates, so too can we expect the upcoming election and the White House to bury the IRS investigation as Republicans once again swim toward the middle and the proof of crimes become idle chatter at Washington get-togethers.

Heck, if the USFWS Director can move up to a high-paying NGO job and her Excise Tax Administrator can become Director of arguably one of the most powerful (next to IRS?) agencies in Washington after the USFWS scandal: if Lois Lerner doesn’t get a high-paying job with some political think-tank or get asked to be a Tax-Exemption Advisor at IRS or even Commissioner of the IRS, well she must not be ambitious.

Maine Bill: Legislature Would Have Final Approval Before Land Given to NPS

“AUGUSTA, Maine — New legislation put forward by Gov. Paul LePage appears to take aim at proponents of a national park in Maine by giving the Legislature final say on large federal projects that would require the acquisition of state land.

The Legislature’s Judiciary Committee will review on Tuesday LD 1828, “An Act To Limit Consent Regarding Land Transfers to the Federal Government.” Rep. Doug Thomas, R-Ripley, is sponsoring the bill.”<<<Read More Answer Poll Question>>>

What To Do About Isle Royale Wolves

An article at Pioneer Press, TwinCities.com, has blubbering about what is to be done about wolves, if anything, on Isle Royale. Here’s the link.

I’ll make a brief comment and then lastly will be followed by Jim Beer’s perspective on what the article actually is saying.

From this bit of information found in the article:

A debate is raging in the scientific community, the public and among Park Service officials on whether humans should intervene to rescue an isolated wolf population that some experts say appears doomed due to genetic inbreeding that’s causing physical deformities that are affecting wolves’ life expectancy.

Others say climate change might have a major impact on the island’s wolves, and the Park Service has formed panels of experts to look at genetics and a warming climate to evaluate their effects on wolf numbers.

Park Service officials have said they have three basic options: doing nothing; waiting for the wolves to die off and then reintroduce new wolves; or introducing new wolves soon while some wolves still are present.

I think other options are not listed and I think the options should be based on what the brain trust decides to finger as the reason wolves have disappeared on Isle Royal and not on the mainland and moose have increased on Isle Royale but decreased on the mainland. For example, climate change. If the special interest “scientists” on the panel that will decide the cause, opt for climate change, not only will they have some explaining to do for their decision but there is little reason to do anything about wolves until they have solved, as gods, the climate change issue. Let me explain further.

If it is decided climate change is the reason, or at least a substantial contributing factor, by their own fake standards, then the same people need to explain why, then, the moose population on Isle Royale has exploded to 1,000, as the wolf population has disappeared, while at the same time climate change has been fingered as the cause of the reduction of moose in Minnesota (Isle Royale is part of Michigan but the island is closer to the Arrowhead of Minnesota than any part of Michigan mainland including the Upper Penninsula.)

Using the same logic and faux science as those thinking climate change is the major factor in a dwindling moose population, and now wolves, why rush into wasting taxpayer money to introduce more wolves if an unresolved, man-caused, climate change issue has not been resolved?

I am of the opinion that the reason that we have not seen more wolves “crossing on the ice” (like they did in 1949 – wink, wink) to repopulate the island is because too many people are watching too closely.

My opinion: Don’t waste my dime on fake science that contributes nothing to the realities of wildlife management outside of a rare closed, incomplete ecosystem.

Jim Beers Perspective:

WHAT IS REALLY BEING SAID by Jim Beers

1. “A debate is raging in the scientific community, the public and among Park Service officials on whether humans should intervene to rescue an isolated wolf population”

The “public” and the “Park Service” are what they are but consider that “the scientific community” is supposedly pure and composed of incontrovertible facts and experts that justify every manner of government intervention. If a “debate” “rages” there: on what basis does it revolve? The answer here as elsewhere in government plant and animal machinations is that “science” and “scientists” are ideologues and advocates every bit as much as the urban animal “rescue” lady or the lawyer working for The Defenders of Wildlife. They are as worthy of the deference shown them in court or their argument-settling role as some Conscientious Objector wearing his Dad’s Service uniform and medals is worthy of consideration in setting Defense Policy in the Pentagon.

2. “Others say climate change might have a major impact on the island’s wolves”.

Minnesota DNR bureaucrats and “scientists” have told docile Minnesotans that “climate change” was the leading factor on the steady demise of the moose population in the State. Twice each year in prominent newspaper articles the State bureaucrats and scientists asked for more money to investigate how “climate change” explained why moose were disappearing. Every such article characterizes those who say, “If moose are disappearing as wolves have been and continue to increase, what about predation of wolves on moose?” as red-necked, jack pine savages that probably flunked out of grade school and lead an alcoholic existence in some trailer back in the North Woods somewhere. So how can “climate change” decrease wolves on Isle Royal while wolves increase on the mainland? How can “climate change” be responsible for the decline of moose throughout Minnesota while their numbers are exploding on Isle Royal? Is there a scientist in the house?

3. “Allow public discussion on wolf management on the island, a designated federal wilderness area.”

This is a “two-fer”. First, I wish to humbly thank the Park Service for their kind offer to “allow public discussion”. For such august bureaucrats to deign to “allow” the rest of us to publicly discuss such matters is so benevolent that I for one can merely express my eternal gratitude. Think about that folks, think about how low the American citizen vis-a-vis his government has sunk. Second, I thought NOTHING could be “managed” in a “federal wilderness area”? Does this mean that downed timber or fire-hazard brush can be removed or burned safely? Can firewood be cut with a chain saw or water scooped from a stream to fight a fire or uses like logging, grazing, vehicle travel, be considered on the (formerly?) precious “Wilderness Areas” at the sufferance of federal bureaucrats? Inquiring minds would like to know.

4. “Isle Royale has a long-standing history of broad ecosystem management,”.

This is gobbledygook. They aren’t even supposed to “manage” wilderness. Ecosystem is a maligned term that has been perversely mangled over the past 45+ years into a meaningless word alone and a word that can mean everything in the ear of the listener or the eyes of the reader. That these insular bureaucrats claim, and the media validate, that their personal work to pander to powerful radical organizations for their own benefit is “broad” ecosystem management is simply ludicrous.

5. “It’s believed that moose first swam to the island in the early 1900s and for decades thrived with no predators. Wolves are relatively new to the 45-mile-long, 143,000-acre island complex, having crossed Lake Superior ice to get there in 1949.”

And wolves that have been somewhere only for 61 years are what: “endangered”, “vital”, “native”, “keystone sp.”, what? Why aren’t they (bureaucrats and scientists and their financier-enablers) treating these moose and wolves that are such recent arrivals (radicals call them “Invaders”) to Isle Royal like they treat pheasants, Hungarian Partridge, Brown Trout, Great lakes Salmon, and all the other dreaded “non-natives” and “introduced” species they want to eradicate, that is to say with contempt? The vast majority of these desirable “non-natives” (radicals call them “Invasives”) have been in place and benefitting human society far longer than these moose and wolves on this Island.

6. “Wolves are no longer performing their function as predator on the island,” “There just aren’t enough to have any real impact on moose.”

So, let me get this straight: wolves on Isle Royal “perform a function as predator” on moose on which they are expected to have a “real impact”. Simultaneously, in the rest of Minnesota (yes Isle Royal was once widely considered to be part of Minnesota until federal controls and hegemony became so powerful that everyone believes the federal estate to simply be separate and distinct from States and Local Communities despite their window-dressing “allowing” of “public discussion”) moose decline as wolves increase and we are instructed to not listen to those fools that say there is a connection between the two. This stuff belongs on Prairie Home Companion.

7. “The situation is so unusual that it’s affecting other species on the island”.

Oh my word! Attention, “species” are being “affected” somewhere. You mean like elk and moose disappearing when wolves are forced into rural enclaves that do not want them? Aren’t “ecosystems” supposed to be like “climate” in that any (well not quite any) change is an emergency that only more government, more spending, more laws and more regulations can control before we all die? Actually, if bureaucrats and radicals want wolves or grizzlies somewhere they haven’t been for a century that is OK: if the same suspects want to eradicate wild species or domestic animals from somewhere that is OK: only if you or I want a landscape and rural environment safe and productive in which to live comfortably and safely raise our families and this is at odds with an all-powerful government acting as a shill for radical organizations –that is NOT OK! My God, “species” go up and down from moment to moment and saying that it is government’s job to intervene with no more cause than that things will be different is an abuse of government power for an unachievable purpose that could drain the world’s debt and GDP’s combined.

8. “It will be up to the National Park Service to decide”.

Unless you are one of the few that think of the Park Service or Fish and Wildlife Service or Forest Service (curious that word “Service” as in who or what do they “SERVE?”) as in your pocket, such common words these days should send a chill up your spine and heartburn down your throat.

9. “With wolf numbers so low, moose numbers on the island have exploded, more than doubling in recent years to more than 1,000. That’s the opposite trend from moose in Minnesota, where numbers have plummeted in recent years to the lowest levels in decades. While moose in Minnesota face bears, humans and deer-related diseases as predators, moose on Isle Royale have only wolves as threats”.

Finally, the piece de resistance! Like the President and his minions explaining what he “really” meant when he said we could keep our doctors and our insurance policies; these bureaucrats, scientists, and their media enablers are faced with a dilemma. How to explain how wolves decimate moose on Isle Royal and not on mainland Minnesota and why when the wolves are about to disappear moose populations are exploding on Isle Royal? If we knocked down dramatically the wolves on mainland Minnesota would moose recover? (The answer is YES.) Yet the Park Service will milk the federal Treasury for more money and people for this mysterious “situation” just like the Minnesota DNR bureaucrats and the University “scientists” have and are milking the State Treasury for more and more money and people to conduct “research on this mystery. Like the explanation of the President’s repeated use of the word “period”; these government con artists add “bears, humans and deer-related diseases” to the growing and irrelevant reasons for the mainland moose declines.

Oh well, it sell papers and garners urban votes to keep in power State pols maintaining unemployment with handouts and building stadiums (Romans called it “Bread and Circuses) and Federal pols signing UN Treaties to sell our sovereignty while taking away our property and our Rights. You couldn’t make this up if you tried to.

Isle Royale’s “Pristine Wilderness?”

I guess it’s time to roll out another story about the insanity that seems to have infected so many concerning wolves and moose on Michigan’s Isle Royale. I’ll spare readers much of the details of the history but in a brief remark state that scientists have been “studying” the relationship between wolves and moose on the island for many years. At issue now is that the inbred wolves are all dying off and the cult of wolf worshipers are near flogging themselves over what to do; let “nature” take it’s course or bring in more wolves?

Perhaps the most important aspect of this so-called study, is the belief by those conducting the studies and the hundreds of thousands of brain dead followers, that somehow, wolves and moose isolated on an island in the midst of Lake Superior, resembles an “ecosystem” found just about anywhere else in the world. But then again, it is impossible to try to convince “The True Believers” that any of this matters.

Dr. Charles Kay, wildlife ecologist at Utah State University, in an email exchange, had this to say about Isle Royale and the wolf and moose studies.

The entire study has been a waste of time because it is a unique situation and the results are NOT APPLICABLE ANY PLACE ELSE IN NORTH AMERICA——and anyone who says it is applicable to other areas, is committing scientific fraud!

This is much like Dr. Valerius Geist’s title he bestows upon the believers of “balance of nature.” He calls it “intellectual garbage.”

To give you an example of the insanity behind Isle Royale, and all the clap trap that gets repeated and perpetuated, you are welcome to read a fairly recent article in The Chronicle of Higher Education (snicker), written by Paul Voosen.

There’s little worth repeating and bringing up in the article but I would like to point out a couple of things that were written, which I think is a reflection of the entire article’s inaccuracies and unbelievable commentary. The author writes:

The service [National Park Service] debated what to do [about an outbreak of parvovirus] then, as it wrangled with fears about interfering in a pristine wilderness. But given global warming, it’s hard today to see any wilderness as pristine. (emboldening added)

Pristine wilderness? Are you kidding me? And is this author intimating, or perhaps he’s just coming straight out and saying so, that there are no longer any “pristine wildernesses” because of global warming? When anyone writes this sort of stuff, doesn’t it give cause to question everything else written? It should!

It is fraud to claim Isle Royale as a “pristine wilderness”, in the 1980s or much of anytime prior to nearly 6,000 years ago. If you knew the history of the island and called it “pristine” that’s fraud. If you don’t know about the history then that’s a reflection of lazy ignorance and poor journalism. Perhaps I should blame that on global warming; something environmentalists can relate to.

Here’s what Wikipedia, that source even lazy people use for reference, has to say about the history of Isle Royale.

In prehistoric times, large quantities of copper were mined on Isle Royale and the nearby Keweenaw Peninsula. The region is scarred by ancient mine pits and trenches up to 20 feet deep. Carbon-14 testing of wood remains found in sockets of copper artifacts indicates that they are at least 5700 years old. In Prehistoric Copper Mining in the Lake Superior Region, published in 1961, Drier and Du Temple estimated that over 1.5 billion pounds of copper had been mined from the region. However, David Johnson and Susan Martin contend that their estimate was based on exaggerated and inaccurate assumptions……….

In the mid-1840s, a report by Douglass Houghton, Michigan’s first state geologist, set off a copper boom in the state, and the first modern copper mines were opened on the island.[9] Evidence of the earlier mining efforts was everywhere, in the form of many stone hammers, some copper artifacts, and places where copper had been partially worked out of the rock but left in place. The ancient pits and trenches led to the discovery of many of the copper deposits that were mined in the 19th century.[7] The remoteness of the island, combined with the small veins of copper, caused most of the 19th century mines to fail quickly.[citation needed] Between the miners and commercial loggers, much of the island was deforested during the late 19th century.

I think any idiot can plainly see that Isle Royale was no “pristine wilderness” nor was the reason for that caused by global warming.

In addition to the false claim that Isle Royale is or once was a “pristine wilderness”, according to Dr. Charles Kay, there were never any wolves or moose on the island.

…before Whites, Native Americans ran the entire island—-and there were NO MOOSE OR WOLVES only a few caribou.

The important thing to remember about the years of studies conducted on wolves and moose on Isle Royale; this information and knowledge gathered can then be used on all the other islands in North America that have wolves and moose on them, exactly like Isle Royale. Now that’s important stuff right there!

Witnesses Testify National Park Service Management Plans Severely Limit Access, Harm Local Economy, Endanger Jobs

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 27, 2012 – Today, the Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands held a joint legislative and oversight hearing on H.R. 4094, the “Preserving Access to Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area Act,” and, “Access Denied: Turning Away Visitors to National Parks.”

“Although today we focused on two examples, Biscayne National Park in Florida and Cape Hatteras in North Carolina, these overly restrictive policies show signs of developing into a nation-wide problem. This is a continuation of anti-visitation policies driven by the Obama Administration that will undercut the tourism industry, hurt local businesses, and destroy jobs,” said Subcommittee Chairman Rob Bishop (UT-01).

The National Park Service has severely limited access to Cape Hatteras National Recreational Area through the implementation of a restrictive management plan and environmental lawsuits from activist environmental groups.

H.R. 4094, sponsored by Rep. Walter Jones, would overturn a final rule implemented by the National Park Service as well as a 2008 U.S. Court Consent Decree by reinstituting the Park Service’s 2007 Interim Management Strategy to govern visitor access and species protection at Cape Hatteras. The legislation will restore visitor’s access to Cape Hatteras while also ensuring the protection of local wildlife and its habitat. Re-opening this Congressionally designated “recreation area” will stimulate the Island’s recreation-dependent economy and foster job creation.

“This bill is about jobs and taxpayers’ right to access the recreational areas they own. H.R. 4094 will restore balance and common sense Park Service management in Cape Hatteras National Recreational Area. It will reverse the significant job loss and economic decline that Hatteras Island has experienced since access was cut off to many of the most popular areas of the seashore,” said Rep. Walter B. Jones (NC-03).

The National Park Service is pushing a new management plan at Biscayne National Park that will eliminate access to over 10,000 acres of sport fishing waters and dissuade visitation to other areas of the park despite strong objections from the surrounding community and opposition by the world renowned scientists of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Fishing, boating, diving and other recreational activities within the Park drive the local economy and support hundreds of jobs. Prohibiting these activities and restricting Park access will negatively impact the local economy, dissuade tourism and cause job loss.

“Biscayne National Park is part of the heritage of our community and is of great significance to many South Florida families. My intent is to help preserve the unique culture surrounding South Florida’s water-centered way of life, while also protecting our environment and maintaining access,” said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (FL-18).

“No one cares more about Biscayne National Park than Floridians and those who utilize the park. Restricting access should be a last resort after all other alternatives have been exhausted. It is my hope that we can all work together on a plan that both protects the Park and remains accessible for the public to enjoy,” said Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (FL-21).

The Epitome of Government Irony

I just received this statement from a reader of this blog:

“Isn’t It Ironic?

The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps ever. And, they spend thousands of our tax dollars encouraging others to apply.

Meanwhile, the Park Service, also part of the Department of Agriculture, asks us to “please do not feed the animals” because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.”
