PA Bear Population Has Quadrupled…….Without Baiting

“Pennsylvania’s black bear population has nearly quadrupled since the 1970s, and black bears have reestablished themselves in upper Bucks County. Officials say this leads to more frequent sightings in suburban areas, particularly as young male bears forage for food and free land in early summer.”<<<Read More>>>

Those in Maine fighting to rid the landscape of their perceived inhumane bear hunting, argue that the implementation of bait to lure a bear to a shooting area, causes bears to get fatter and thus increases the number of offspring causing the bear population to rise which results in increased encounters between humans and the beast. If that is true, which it’s not, then how do you explain Pennsylvania’s claim that their bear population has grown by a multiple of 4 and they don’t utilize bear baiting as a management tool?

Another Proposed Predator Study That Will Be a Waste of Time

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is considering doing a study aimed at determining what impact predators are having on deer populations and what, if anything, can or should be done to minimize it.

That long has been a hot-button topic in Pennsylvania, one frequently debated by biologists, board members, sportsmen and lawmakers.<<<Read More>>>

No Gun Violence in PA, Vultures Remain Quiet

“The calls for something to be done aren’t being made because the horrible occurrence yesterday points out something that pro gun groups have been saying for some time: America doesn’t have a gun problem, we have an anger and violence problem- especially in our schools.

Further, the groups normally calling for immediate legislative action are being quiet because stabbings don’t move the needle for them. Eliminating violence is as nebulous and unlikely an idea as world peace- they know that’s impossible.

And it’s not their ultimate goal. Disarming average Americans is their goal, and they’re single-minded in that mission. When it’s a non-gun event, that’s difficult for them to deny, so they go quiet.”<<<Read More>>>

PA Opts to Increase Bear Hunting Opportunity to Curb Growing Population of Bears

“The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners Tuesday proposed opening up extended bear hunting opportunities to two additional WMUs in 2014.

Game Commission staff had recommended the additions based on increases in the bear populations within those WMUs.

WMU 4B also has had an increasing trend of human-bear conflicts, and several incidents in recent years involving home entry or injury to pets and people. Highway mortality of bears also has increased there, as has the bear harvest, which has increased by about 20 percent annually since 2003.”<<<Read More>>>

PA House Passes Bill to Establish Coyote Bounty

HARRISBURG – The state House on Wednesday passed a bill authorizing the Pennsylvania Game Commission to set a bounty on coyotes.

The bill, approved by a vote of 111-78, would establish a “coyote incentive program” by offering $25 for coyotes killed in the commonwealth. It’s the first such bounty offered on a wild animal in 50 years.<<<Read More>>>

PA Wants to Study Deer Impacts on Forests

Well, here we go again. Just when I thought the dust had settled on the controversial deer management plans in Pennsylvania, here comes another “study” to determine, for sure this time(?), what effect deer have on forest regeneration and destruction of deer habitat. And of course how that effects the rest of the ecosystem.

What ever in the world happened to “nature balances itself?” Oh, wait for it. It’s coming. Never fear.

I predict that this “study” will be the precursor to the cry out for wolf introduction into the Keystone State in order to “BALANCE” their troubled ecosystem.

Any bets?

NRA Will Produce Pennsylvania Outdoor Show

I guess in stead of hiring an anti gun outfit to put on an outdoor and sporting show, the largest anywhere, the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center has hired the NRA to put on the show next February, 2014.

Financially, Who Really Got Hurt By Boycott of Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show?

Nobody can deny the unorganized impact hundreds of outdoor industry businesses and organizations had when they spontaneously (or so it appears) and like dominoes, lined up to announce their boycott of the Eastern Sport & Outdoor Show that was supposed to be held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania this week. However, the decision to reject Reed Exhibitions’ choice to ban the display and sale of so-called “modern weaponry”, probably hurt the protesters and the community of Harrisburg more than it hurt Reed Exhibitions.

It’s pretty easy for me to sit here in front of my keyboard and talk about how brave the well over 300 venders were who told Reed Exhibitions to stick it, but if we can just gain a bit better understanding of the financial sacrifices some of these companies, micro businesses and individuals made, we all may gain a better appreciation for what it really meant to turn their backs on Reed; necessitated by a desire to stand up to the bullies (fascists) and protect their Second Amendment rights.

The Eastern Sports & Outdoor Show is the largest outdoor show the U.S.A. has. It is put on by Reed Exhibitions. For the vendors this show is more than a chance to get together to dine out, swap war stories and perhaps drink a bit too much. According to a press release found on The Outdoor Wire, many of the exhibitors at the show rely on business generated from the show to run their operations for the entire year. In short, it is their business in which they sink everything. From my own travels and dealings with outfitters and suppliers, these kinds of shows do, in fact, sometimes make or break a person’s investments.

Aside from the tremendous financial sacrifices many of these people made, the Harrisburg, PA area lost an estimated $44 million because the show was cancelled or postponed (not sure which. I’ve heard both).

Reed Exhibitions on the other hand may have lost some money but I’m sure it isn’t going to put them out of business. Reed is arguably the largest exposition company on the planet. In 2011 the company realized revenues in excess of $1.1 billion, with profits topping $262 million.

For those not aware, Reed Exhibitions also runs the SHOT Show, usually in Las Vegas, in addition to other shows worldwide.

While I don’t believe that Reed is going to suffer all that much difficulty by being forced to close the Eastern Outdoor Show down, many of the venders will be hurting. Please consider this if any of you are planning to purchase products or book outdoor adventures. These people went out on a limb in protest for us, we need to return the favor as much as we can.

In the meantime Reed will plug along and perhaps they will have a better understanding of the people they are dealing with. Also consider that Reed could possibly have accepted bribes from other companies or individuals to ban the weapons from their show. I have seen nothing yet that would indicate this happened but we live in a corrupt society rife with sinister thinking people with huge political agendas. Certainly the idea of this sort of bribery and payoff is very realistic. If nothing else, I willing to wager Reed was pressured politically from the gun grabbers of the world.

Reed Exhibitions Cancels 2013 Outdoor Show

My day is now complete. The idiots at Reed Exhibitions, a company from “across the pond” have cancelled the outdoor show that was scheduled to be held in February in Pennsylvania. They deserve just what they get attempting to dictate to American outdoor companies what they can and cannot display and sell for products.

However, I’m still sticking to my assessment that Reed Exhibitions will not lose one cent from this cancellation as I believe somebody backed them financially if they would put on the gun bans. I’m looking for information on that but so far nothing. If it happened, it will be found out.
