Snowy Owls Don’t Give a Hoot at Portland, Maine Airport

Sorry for the headline. I just couldn’t help myself.

Remember this piece of satire (sort of) I did a few days ago about how snowy owls were migrating into the Northeast region of the U.S., supposedly in search of food? Information being spread throughout news agencies says that the owls are attracted to airports because of the wide open spaces that are conducive to the raptors normal prey habitat.

Now we have a report that these snowy owls have become a bit of a problem at the Portland International Jetport, having collided with at least 5 planes. Hazing efforts don’t seem to be working so well and officials have resorted to shooting two of the owls.
