Montana Residents and Officials Looking For Wolf

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Ranchers and wildlife officials around the Bozeman area are looking for a wolf or hybrid wolf that is responsible for the killing of 35 sheep and wounding another 70. Initial reports and investigations led officials to think the damage was done by domestic dogs. Further evidence suggests that a large wolf could be to blame.

Last month a private trapper named Jeff Skyberg followed up on a call about large dog tracks in the fresh snow. He used a small plane to follow the tracks and observed what he believed to be a large wolf. Because the wolf is protected, he could not kill it nor would federal officials give him permission.

By the time officials from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service arrived on the scene, the animal was long go.
