Reward Offered For Information About Illegal Release of Elk

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

New Mexico officials are offering a $1,000 reward for information about who is responsible for illegally letting eight domesticated elk go free in the wild. Out of fear of disease exposure and spreading, officials for the Department of Game and Fish had to destroy all eight animals.

Department personnel said they were able to walk right up to the animals and pet them. Obviously this is not normal and they want to know who did this. They are not even sure if the animals were brought into New Mexico from another state.

There are many private game farms and elk herds in New Mexico but officials say they are tightly regulated.
