The Florida House unanimously passed HB285 that would guarantee that any lawful citizen who has the right to own a gun will not have that right taken away from them in a time of crisis.
The bill was sponsored by Rep. Mitch Needleman (R) Melbourne after watching and hearing about what happened in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina hit. Officials there began a systematic grabbing of guns away from law abiding people. Those in charge at the time said they had a legal right to do that. That has been challenged in court and a similar bill has passed through Louisiana that would prohibit that in the future.
The bill will now move on to the Senate for approval.
